According to RollingOut.com Around this time last year, Iggy Azalea was one of the hottest rappers in the music industry with hit records on her hands and every blog and magazine wanting to snap photos of her. But since then, a mountain of tabloid drama, including accusations of racism and cultural appropriation, have left Iggy’s career on a gradual decline. Now, many fans are counting her out as a flash in the pan star. Sadly for Iggy, even one of her mentors, rap legend T.I., has distance himself from her over the past several months and this week he officially confirmed that he did end his business relationship with Iggy, for now.
In a recent interview with Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning,” T.I. was asked about Iggy’s fading career and Tip explained that he hasn’t reached out to her in a long time, though he is still involved in her brand. However, he did defend her, saying that she was under a lot of pressure and scrutiny from the world to be perfect.
He later added, “It’s very difficult to be the new kid and to be the butt of the jokes. Some stuff they [Iggy and her team] brought upon themselves. In some cases it kind of was just the easiest place to put some pent-up aggression.”
Tip then explained that he decided to back away from Iggy after her online dustup with Q-Tip, in which she blasted him after he questioned her knowledge of hip-hop history.
“After the Q-Tip thing,” he said. “After I kind of had smoothed it over, like OK, ‘What is really meant to be said here is …’ After it was cool, everything was cool, and then they kind of came back and undid what I had just [accomplished]. I’ma be all the way real: I’m a loyal partner. If I rock with you I’m gon’ rock with you … I really do feel that they just needed a little more time to adjust, which I feel they can do. They have the talent, they have the charisma.”
Well, I guess the world will just have to see how Iggy fares without Tip, but things haven’t been looking too good for her without him.
